We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kat Coffman. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Kat, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Definitely. It’s easy to feel like you need to act fast all the time — to seize every opportunity before it slips away. But I’ve learned that not every opportunity is the right one. Sometimes waiting, thinking it through, and letting it sit for a bit actually brings more clarity. I’ve been glad I didn’t act fast because it allowed me to make more intentional decisions that aligned with my goals, rather than reacting out of impulse.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Kat, the owner and candle maker behind Audette’s Legacy, a small-batch, hand-poured soy candle business based in Georgetown, Texas. I create cozy, one-of-a-kind soy candles that are as much about connection and creativity as they are about scent.
What makes my brand unique is that it’s not just about selling candles — it’s about creating memories. Through my candle-making workshops, I help people slow down, tap into their creativity, and walk away with something they made themselves (and maybe a little spark of confidence, too). Whether it’s crafting a signature scent for someone’s home, hosting private events, or releasing exclusive designs and vessels through my monthly subscription, my goal is always to make candles feel personal and meaningful.
Right now, I’m working on expanding my fall candle-making class schedule and continuing to dream up creative ways to bring more light and joy into my customers’ homes.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a maker. Even as a kid, I was always creating something — crafts, journals, I loved it. I loved bringing ideas to life and making people smile. That hasn’t changed much — I’ve just learned how to own it louder.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Everything you’re going through is shaping you into someone resilient, compassionate, and creative — and one day, you’ll use those experiences to help others more than you realize
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
There are so many small business owners I admire — the ones who pour their heart into their work, stay kind even when things get hard, and show up day after day with integrity. That kind of character inspires me more than any title ever could
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I think I’d regret not opening up a candle studio of my own someday. It’s a vision I’ve held onto — a space to create, teach, and connect. But right now, I love the freedom and community that comes with popping up in different places. I’m still toggling with the idea, but I know if I don’t at least try one day, that little ‘what if’ will always linger.
