We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marc Williams. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Marc, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually wake up, get caffeine in me, and start checking emails and socials. This can take a while depending on the day. I also check on a small eBay business I run and prepare items for shipment if needed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marc Anderson Williams and I am currently a composer of music based in Austin, Texas. I perform and write music for multiple genres from Black Metal to cinematic composition work. Everything remains extremely melodic regardless of how the music is cataloged. You might say that I have my own unique sound that is noticeable to those close to me. I continue to write daily, although most work gets trashed or put aside. I feel its best to just keep going until you find that perfect motif or progression that makes everything fit together.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
I would have to give this honor to my father. I’ve never met anyone in my life who works as hard as he did. He didn’t do it for the pay, but for the absolute need to keep moving. I respect that and have tried to emulate that in every venture I involved myself in. There’s not always a finish line but as long as you stay in the race, you’re doing very well.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Around 2014 or so I completely gave up music. I sold everything and even disappointed a close friend by putting our project on the back burner. I was just done at this time. Bad music industry types and a band falling apart contributed to it. It must’ve taken me about five or six years before I was ready to play again.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I like to think so. I’m very approachable and generally keep a smile on my face when meeting people. I may wear different hats for my different projects, but I think anyone who’s familiar with it all knows that its the same person. At my age, pretending doesn’t really seem to matter much anymore. I want people to appreciate me for who I really am rather than a persona I created to impress them.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing now what I believe I was born to do. That is to create things. I’m no good with factory labor or monotonous work like that. My mind doesn’t have the ability to still itself for such things. Even going to the store sometimes fills me with anxiety because I want to be doing what I do with music. The crowds contribute to that anxiety but mostly I’ll just get an idea in my head and it drives me crazy not being able to instantly put it down in my studio. This is how I know that I have to do this. I don’t feel I have a choice, but I love it so much.
