Story & Lesson Highlights with Tyla Flood of Cameron, TX

We recently had the chance to connect with Tyla Flood and have shared our conversation below.

Tyla , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now a normal day for me mostly revolves around my kids and school for them, they both attend online public schools from home and this is my youngest child’s first year attending school this way so we are learning a new routine. School for the kids and then work for me in the evenings and on weekends.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Tyla, I’m a 31 year old married mother of two and I own Flash Flood Photography. I started my business at the height of Covid in 2020 and it took off faster than I could have imagined. I don’t have a niche which I know isn’t exactly the norm in the photography world but I love shooting to many different things to choose just one so here I am photographing everything from newborns and families to boudoir and weddings and everything in between.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents get all the credit for my work ethic. My dad owned a construction business basically my entire life and his reputation was well known because he worked hard and got things done right the first time and my mom has always had at least 2 jobs for most of my life, I can even remember one point when I was 12 or 13 that she had 4 jobs.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure, of not being good enough. I think this fear holds a lot of people back. Risk is scary because what if it doesn’t work out? What if you fail? Plus I hate rejection so being told I’m not good enough is a scary thought.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My husband, he is quite literally the smartest and most creative person I have ever known. In fact, my business name, Flash Flood Photography, was his brain child.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I think I’m doing what I was born to do. I find so much joy in creating my art, meeting new clients, catching up with repeat clients, and most of all I love delivering beautiful galleries to my clients!
