Tameiya Love on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Tameiya Love and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Tameiya, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I think others are struggling with being at peace. With themselves, with life , their choices and so many other things. Peace is a choice, life is simply what you make it .

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tameiya, I am a Leo. But most importantly I’m just a mother trying to create generational wealth for herself and her boys who are depending on her . I am into all things beauty I did makeup as well as hair called laidnslayedbeauty which you guys have featured before and I’m truly grateful for that . I now have started a podcast that i am rebranding currently called Talk Yo Sh*t Podcast where its raw , real and unfiltered. I have talked about relationships, friendships, what life is like for women who grew up without their father. Just a lot of real topics . I’ve always felt like an outkast or felt i had to overcompensate for people to adore me when really all I had to do was be myself. I have a lot in store and in the works I’ll keep quiet on for now, I can sing as well and have been contemplating on dwelling on that but im so shy when it comes to public speaking and especially singing . There are so many avenues to me and I get overwhelmed trying to explore them all .

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I believed I was to loud , to reckless, even told entitled or disrespectful, maybe even problematic. But truth is … I’m not loud Im passionate about myself, my feelings and my respect . I take risks for the greater good or to simply learn a lesson because of my enormous heart. I am entitled when it comes to how i expect people to treat me especially when I know how I treat them. Im no longer a people pleaser and for some thats considered problematic.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say something to Young Meiya .. I’d tell her to be her unapologetically. Who cares what people think of you or your choices , we all have to start from somewhere . I’d tell her to stop apologizing for people and things she cannot control and that she can’t expect herself in other people.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I use to believe in doing things I thought that would make my parents happy or proud of me . But then i learned to love myself more and realized its my life to live and focused on what makes me happy .

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I definitely am doing what i was born to do. If i was asked this some years ago the answer would be different
